Board of Directors Meeting

MINUTES OF MEETING – Tuesday, October 4, 2022

Meeting conducted remotely via Zoom

 

1.       Call to order – Joel Martin at 11:30 AM

a.       Seven voting board members in attendance, a quorum was not present.

b.       Board members attending: Tim Griesmer, Joel Martin, Sam Thiessen, Jace Johnson, Steve Best, Mike Euperio, Bill Dorner

 

2.       AOG/Leadership Conference update – Steve Best

a.       Steve attended the conference on behalf of WPSD.

b.       Participated in the march back as a member of the 50-year class.

c.       Steve briefed the board on the activities at the conference and updates from the Superintendent, Commandant, Dean, and AOG.

d.       Steve received the Distinguished Society Award on behalf of WPSD.

e.       Steve thinks the society should try to recruit one of the big three for the Founder’s Day speaker.

f.        AOG has a goal of $600 million for the next capital campaign.

 

3.       Admissions - Jace Johnson

a.       Jace provided an update on the admissions. Files are now open for the Class of 2027

b.       The total number of opened files are down, but there is an increase in opened files in CD1.

c.       55% of applicants are fully qualified.

d.       Jace decided not to pay for any college fairs because of unacceptable cost. The society will have a presence at the free college fairs.

 

4.       Founder’s Day Planning – Joel Martin

a.       Andy Benson is looking for a volunteer to be the public point of contact for Founder’s Day and to handle some administrative requirements. Joel and Steve will work with Andy.

b.       Request for speakers has been submitted.

 

5.       Army-Air Force Watch Party – Joel Martin

a.       Steve Best is going to ask Alfred Fields if he will organize the watch party.

b.       Steve will also investigate the possibility of coordinating a tailgate with the Pike’s Peak chapter for next year’s game in Denver.

 

6.       Army-Navy Watch Party - Joel Martin

a.       Jason Connor may not be available to run the event this year. The board is looking for a volunteer to help with the planning.

b.       Steve Best is going to reach out to Alfred Fields to ask about his interest.

 

7.       WPLEC and LEADs – Joel Martin

a.       The board discussed the date and timeline for contacting high school counselors.

 

The next board meeting will be held on December 7, 2022.

The meeting adjourned at 12:30 PM.

Meeting conducted remotely via Zoom

 

1.       Call to order – Joel Martin at 9:32 AM

a.       Eight voting board members in attendance, making a quorum.

b.       Board members attending: Tim Griesmer, Joel Martin, Sam Thiessen, Bob Walcott, Mike Euperio, Bill Dorner, Andy Benson, Chad Dalton

 

2.       Secretary’s Report/Approval of Minutes – Tim Griesmer

a.       Minutes from the May 17, 2022 board meeting were approved 8-0.

 

3.       Distinguished Society Award Application – Tim Griesmer

a.       The 2021-2022 DSA was submitted prior to the deadline with sufficient points to qualify as a distinguished society.

 

4.       Young Grad Engagement – Mike Euperio

a.       Looking at August 18 for a social event

 

5.       Tri-Service Golf Tournament – Chad Dalton

a.       August 12, 2022, 1:30 pm shotgun start

b.       Chad will order golf balls from the Academy to give out to the participants using the previously approved funds.

 

6.       Founder’s Day – Andy Benson

a.       Board discussed the possibility of a venue change but concluded that it was not necessary at this time.

b.       Joel will coordinate with Pike’s Peak chapter to coordinate the dates.

c.       The board discussed potential guest speakers. The board will request one of the big three from USMA and discussed other possibilities for speakers.

d.       Andy asked that an additional society member volunteer to assist him with the planning and execution of Founder’s Day.

e.       Joel wants to commit to finding financial sponsors for Founder’s Day next year.

 

7.       WPLEC and LEADs – Joel Martin

a.       Next WPLEC/LEADs seminar will be held in the March/April 2023 timeframe.

b.       Joel plans to start reaching out to the schools in mid-September.

c.       The board will also seek corporate sponsorships for this event.

The next board meeting will be held on October 5, 2022 via zoom.

The meeting adjourned at 10:01 AM.
