Minutes from Board of Directors Meeting Feb 24, 2011

Call to Order

Meeting called to order at 1147 by Sam Thiessen.

Roll Call

Chuck Jones ’68, Lindy Blackburn ’69, Sam Thiessen ’73, Dave Jackson ’73, Bob Walcott ’78, Amy Efaw ’89, Dan Young ’94, Joel Martin ’02, Jonny Karpuk ‘01, and Mark Frank ‘00.  A quorum was present.  Guest present was Keynnie Martin (wife of Joel Martin ’02).

 

Review Minutes

Draft minutes from 25 January were reviewed.  A motion to approve was submitted and seconded.  Board approved minutes with unanimous vote.

Treasurer’s Report

Dave Jackson provided a report of the board’s account balances. We have $xxxx in the various accounts.  The treasurer’s report was reviewed and unanimously approved. Chuck Jones announced that he has completed the financial review of the 2010 books and finds them to be in excellent shape.  Dave Jackson is to be commended for the thoroughness and completeness of the submitted information.
   

Membership

There was no significant change in the total members in our area (921) of which 93 are paying members and 48 are lifetime members. 

Website

The Google website is up and running.  The past minutes are being posted on the website. Jackson noted he had two people report having trouble using the website.


Admissions

No update.


WP Parents Club Activities

The Parent’s Club had a social event last month with 20-25 cadets/families represented.  They addressed details for the upcoming Plebe Parent Weekend.   


Founders Day

The WPSD Founders Day will take place 5 March 2011 at The University Club.  The proposed Program was distributed for review and comments. An idea was proposed to honor recent deceased members. A list of this year’s deceased was included in the program, and we will have a moment of silence to honor them.    Jackson said we needed a draft head count on Monday the 28th and a final count on Wednesday 2 March.  It was moved and approved to buy six (6) of Rich Adams’ book, The Parting, for use as future gifts.  Various other details were discussed and assignments made.

Tri-Service Academy Alumni Golf Tournament

The tournament will be held on the morning of 20 June 2011 at the AFA Golf Course.  The WPSD is the host academy and board member Joel Martin ’02 is our POC.  Navy and Air Force have been notified.

 

Quarterly Meetings

MAJ McClellan will be in Denver for the All Academy Seminar.  Blackburn will plan a breakfast event on April 16 for us to hear the Admissions presentation and to ask questions of MAJ McClellan.

Winter Newsletter

The newsletter was distributed to all members of the Society.  Many thanks to Martin for an excellent job in getting the newsletter out.

Summer Leadership Seminar

Lindy Blackburn will coordinate with the Academy to get a list of approved SLS attendees and e-mail them about the scholarship we are offering.

BIZNET

Attendance is continuing at the 6-15 range each week.  Joe Paniccia ’84, the leader of BIZNET was involved in a bicycle accident, but is recovering.

 

Nominating Board Members

Jones reported he has been working with the committee to get a slate together for Founder’s Day. After the elections at Founder’s Day, the Board will elect Officer’s at its next meeting.

Old/New Business

Proposed meeting schedule for the remainder of 2011: 3 May (SLS/Plebe-Parent), 26 July (Leadership Conf), 4 October (Air Force Game), 6 December (Navy Game), and 24 January 2012 (Annual Planning Mtg.).

Meeting Adjourn

The meeting was adjourned at 1306.
